Geocaching #1, #2

A couple of weeks ago we discovered Geocaching. Basically you use  GPS coordinates to locate an area and when you reach that area you search for a hidden cache. The cache is some kind of waterproof box containing a logbook and sometimes other items you can trade. Think of a high tech type of hide and seek. We're really new to it but are already hooked on it...

Boscarne  Junction, The Camel Trail

Our first search was along the Camel Trail, looking for a tricky to find cache near Boscarne Junction. We spent a good while searching but couldn't find it. It was only later we realised it had a higher difficulty rating- not quite the most sensible to choose as your first go.

Success!

Our next search was the next day, looking for a cache on Bodmin Beacon nature reserve. This time we found the cache, thanks to Kieran being very sharp eyed.

Sunset over a misty Bodmin

If we hadn't gone geocaching we wouldn't have seen the most wonderful sunset on our way home. Just think of all the people who missed this sunset and all the sunsets I've never seen....

John and Me near the cache
Last Friday we went out again, looking for a cache by  a foot bridge over the A30 near the Lanhydrock Estate. It was quite an easy find this time, we quickly found the cache, helped a bit by an obviously well trod muddy side trail off the path. My first find- but only because I got there first!!!

Each walk has taken us to places we have been before but we are looking with new eyes- and I don't just mean looking for small boxes. We are looking again at the world around us, and we're loving it!

Until next time
Gillian
